SB 657 – Study Hexavalent Chromium in Groundwater
Primary Sponsor: Sen. Kathy Harrington (R – Gaston)
This bill would study the adverse impacts on drinking water of residents in neighborhoods where at least part of the neighborhood has its drinking water supply wells located within a one-half mile radius from the established compliance boundary of a coal combustion residuals impoundment. The Department of Environmental Quality would conduct the study of the distribution and levels of hexavalent chromium in the groundwater beneath such a divided neighborhood in order to determine if all households are impacted.
