1. Honor A Physician Today For Doctors’ Day

Today, March 30, is the annual observance of Doctors’ Day, a time to honor you and the amazing work you do.

And we want to give you an opportunity to recognize your colleagues. Consider sending an e-card to show a colleague you care and recognize their contributions in honor of Doctors’ Day. If you choose, their name will be publicized in Morning Rounds and on our social media platforms. To make it even more meaningful, the proceeds from each $10 card goes to support the work of the NCMS Foundation. Learn more about the Foundation and its many programs to improve access to care in North Carolina.

2. NCMS Employee Benefit Plan: Appointment of Drs. Cohen and Contogiannis to the Board of Trustees

The NCMS Employee Benefit Plan welcomes Sandya (Sandy) T. Cohen, MD and Mary Ann Contogiannis, MD to its Board of Trustees. The NCMS Plan provides medical practices with a health benefit plan that is specifically customized to meet practice employee needs for health, life, and dental coverage. The NCMS Plan is governed by a Board of Trustees whose members are both physicians and Plan participants. The Board of Trustees is charged with authority for the administration and operation of, and complete fiscal control over, the Trust and the NCMS Plan. Trustees make thoughtful decisions that affect daily Plan operations and benefit offerings for NCMS members.

The NCMS Plan is known for superior customer service, health promotion programming and flexibility, including the following features:

•    Wellness programs for clinicians and their teams;
•    Special eligibility classes for retirees, surviving spouses, and domestic partners;
•    Option to offer two plans regardless of practice size;
•    Option to offer three plans for practices with more than 50 enrolled employees;
•    Guaranteed coverage for all qualifying practices;
•    No surcharge for practices;
•    Practices are not excluded based on size.

3. Wellness Wednesday: Coming Back From Being a Burned Out Physician

As your professional society, led by your colleagues and representing your interests and those of your patients, the NCMS understands the oftentimes extreme pressure and stress your job entails. Statistics reveal alarming rates of physician burnout.

In this still relevant 2018 NCMS Bedside Manners podcast, Dr. Clark Gaither aka ‘Dr. Burnout’ shares his own experience with being a burned out physician and how he recovered. He details how you can identify the signs and symptoms of burnout and steps you can take to transform from being burned out to finding new meaning in your career and life.

Dr. Gaither’s book, Reignite: Transform from Burned Out to On Fire and Find New Meaning in Your Career and Life, is available online.
