1. The Doctor Will See You Now — In the Hallway

Some hospitals are reporting overcrowding and lack of hospital rooms and beds as the reason for now having to resort to seeing patients in hallways. Read more here.

2. Amid staffing shortages, North Carolina National Guard to assist Alamance Regional Medical Center

Staffing shortages at North Carolina hospitals and health centers is leading to unusual partnerships to fill in the gap. The NC National Guard announced on Wednesday Feb. 9 that it will send 25 soldiers to Alamance Regional Medical Center to help offset staffing shortages. The troops are being dispatched to provide relief to Cone Health’s frontline workers and allow doctors and nurses to focus solely on patient care. Read more here.

The 43rd Annual Minority Health Conference—Revolutionary Healing and Rebuilding: Learning from Today, Transforming Tomorrow

Thursday, February 24 – Friday, February 25

This year’s conference will be a hybrid virtual and in-person format. The conference theme, Revolutionary Healing and Rebuilding, recognizes that the first step in transforming systems and structures is to acknowledge past and present traumas of systemic racism. The conference seeks to provide a space to acknowledge the wounds of systemic racism, reflect on the structural challenges and barriers to health equity, and advance the work being done to sow seeds that will grow into more equitable systems for tomorrow.
