Xylazine, a veterinary tranquilizer also commonly known as “tranq” or “tranq dope,” is increasingly being mixed with opioids and increases risk of overdose. In follow-up to its recent alert, the NC Division of Public Health has published an information sheet to help build awareness among health care providers and the public.

The resource provides information on:

  • What xylazine is
  • Xylazine side effects
  • The increasing prevalence
  • Tips for the healthcare team on recognizing the signs and symptoms of xylazine toxicity
  • Pubic awareness tips

Please circulate this resource among colleagues and patients.
