SB 498 – Healthy Food Small Retailer Program
Primary Sponsors: Sen. Don Davis (R – Pitt), Sen. Louis Pate (R – Pitt)
This bill would enact the corner store initiative to assist healthy food small retailers in urban and rural areas, especially in food desert zones. The Healthy Food Small Retailer Fund would be created as a restricted reserve in the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Commissioner of Agriculture would be responsible for making a written determination on whether an area is a food desert zone.
