The U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy, M.D., M.B.A. sent a personal letter in August to more than 2.3 million health care practitioners and public health leaders seeking help in addressing the prescription opioid crisis. He wants to make sure that you saw his letter, which you can read here, and then go to www.TurnTheTideRx.org/join to join with clinicians and public health leaders from across the country in a simple but powerful movement to end this epidemic.
Read the letter. Take the pledge. And spread the word, Dr. Murthy urges, asking all health care practitioners to come together to turn the tide on prescription opioid abuse to save lives.

How about a letter from the Surgeon General to health system CEOs asking them to “Take the Anti-Press Gainey Pledge.” Because as long as physicians are held hostage to patients’ happiness they will prescribe opiates. You can’t simultaneously desire behavior A and punish behavior A.
