This bill has been filed in both the House and Senate. It intends to revise the NC motor vehicle laws to allow individuals over the age of 21 to operate and ride motorcycles and mopeds without a helmet. Individuals under the age of 21 would still be required to wear a helmet. NCMS opposes this bill due to the increased risk of potential head injuries if passed.
A proposed committee substitute for this bill was introduced in the House Transportation Committee on April 24, 2017. The proposed committee substitute was found favorable, and will now move to the House Floor.
