The NC Medical Society has issued a plea to each North Carolina member of the US House of Representatives and US Senate to take action to avert the scheduled cuts in Medicare reimbursement.
The Society is joined by 25 partner state societies as co-signers on the letter and we remain hopeful that Congress will take the necessary legislative steps to prevent the catastrophic cuts from taking effect. A sample of the letter sent to each member can be accessed here.
The NCMS has issued a complementary Action Alert to Society members, which is posted on its homepage, encouraging them to contact their members of Congress to share their concerns over the impending Medicare cuts. The alert includes a link which makes connecting with congressional offices as simple as a key stroke. If you have not followed through on this urgent alert, please do so today.
Targeting physicians for payment cuts may save a few bucks in the short term and seem to hurt only a limited number of individuals. However, in reality the recurrent cuts in physician reimbursement are actually hurting your constituents and voters. As physicians are forced to close down their practices access to care in poor and rural areas will only become more difficult and the medical/insurance monopolies that your policies are creating and encouraging are not providing the necessary care to the folks that live in these areas. There is a healthcare crisis in rural America. In addition, as your policies further encourage the expansion of healthcare monopolies and the consolidation of wealth and revenue, costs not only will continue to skyrocket but you are creating a crisis that a future generation will have to deal with. It seems that history is repeating itself – the lessons that Teddy Roosevelt taught us over 100 years ago obviously have been forgotten
