PA Profession Fun Facts:
- The PA profession began in North Carolina!
- There are eleven PA programs in North Carolina.
- Dr. Eugene Stead of the Duke University Medical Center put together the first class of PA students in 1965.
- In 1967, the first three PA students graduate from the 2-year Duke PA Program
- In 2016, there were 5,602 active, licensed PAs practicing in NC (1). Today, there are currently over 9,000 certified PAs living and/or practicing in North Carolina (2)
