This week, the NCMS along with several specialty societies met with legislators to discuss SB249/HB277 — the SAVE Act, which would remove the current physician supervision requirements for nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists and certified registered nurse anesthetists within the definition of “advanced practice registered nurse. NCMS Past President and chair of the NCMS’ Medical Team Task Force Robert ‘Charlie’ Monteiro, MD, spoke at the meeting about the NCMS’ opposition to this proposal and about the importance of training and education to patient safety.
