What is the NCMS Foundation’s Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders?

The NC Medical Society Foundation presents the NCMSF Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders (FHL). FHL is a six-month inter-professional leadership development program for emerging leaders in a NC healthcare professional training program. FHL is distinguished by an emphasis on leading in an inter-professional healthcare environment and networking across institutions. The interactive learning format invites participants to actively engage with faculty, speakers, and peers.

Program Description

The six-month program includes a series of live, synchronous workshops that bring together students from a range of healthcare professions to build leader identity and master leadership skills, including leading teams, communication, and career development. An interactive and participative approach will probe student experiences, build new perspective, and focus on each student’s individual development as a leader.

This leadership development program includes a structured professional development plan that helps to define career goals, identify skill gaps, and outline steps to achieve professional growth. In addition, the program includes learning sessions that improve awareness of how individuals approach work, communicate, and solve problems. Team building, emotional intelligence development, and patient and community advocacy are foundational parts of the curriculum.

This program consists of 4 in-person sessions and 4 virtual
sessions. In-person sessions are held on Saturdays. Virtual
sessions are held on Thursdays, 6-7:30 PM.
