Another busy week for the North Carolina Medical Society. Senate Bill 20 is making a fast track through Raleigh and NCMS’s Manager of Regulatory Advocacy has a breakdown of what is happening so far. We also take a look at where the NCMS-aided Prior Authorization bill is and some big legislative wins this week.

I’m about ready to drop my NCMS membership after about 30 years. Seems like NCMS is ignoring hurtful legislation and supporting republicans that propose micromanaging medical care based on political ideology and making points with a political base. Medical care should be managed by Drs and patients ( eg. abortion decisions, transgender patient care, even limiting caring for patients if a provider or ANYONE working in the facility is “ morally “ opposed to that patient receiving care. ). Seems like all the NCMS cares about is dollars, not common sense and caring for patients. What is we were “morally opposed” to providing care for Republican legislators. How would they feel about that? What if they had a daughter who did not realize she was pregnant until 13 weeks? Would they want a choice for her?
They are trying to ruin our public universities where many NCMS members received an excellent education by restricting tenure, putting radical right ideological politicians on university boards, compromising research funding with risking accreditation.
