Carolinas Society of Endocrinologists Holds Annual Meeting in Historic Charleston

The Carolinas Society of Endocrinologists (CSE) brought more than 110 endocrinologists, trainees, and healthcare professionals from across North and South Carolina together August 21–23 for its 2026 Annual Meeting at The Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina.

The three-day meeting delivered a mix of clinical education, emerging science, professional connection, and conversation about the rapidly evolving field of endocrinology. Continuing education sessions highlighted advances in endocrine and metabolic care while creating space for attendees to exchange experiences, ask questions, and learn from colleagues across the Carolinas. Topics included:

• The latest information on treating patients with GLP-1s;
• Managing thyroid illness during pregnancy;
• AI in endocrinology;
• Thyroid cancer guideline updates;
• Updates in adrenal insufficiency;
• And the latest information on AID, ADH 1 receptors, and non-osteoporotic bone disease.

Education was only part of the experience. Throughout the weekend, the meeting provided opportunities for networking and collaboration. Attendees walked the packed Exhibit Hall, discussed the future of CSE during its annual business meeting, and joined one another for drinks and dining at the Friday Welcome Reception and Saturday’s buffet dinner.

During the CSE annual business meeting, Dr. Joseph Aloi was honored with a plaque for his two years of service as president of the Carolinas Society of Endocrinologists. Thank you again, Dr. Aloi, for your dedication, leadership, and tireless work on behalf of CSE!

The meeting also provided the next generation of endocrinologists an opportunity to share their latest research and clinical experiences. Twelve residents and medical students took part in the Scientific Poster Session and the following individuals were singled out for their work:

• Tied for 1^st place and winner of a $250 prize: Evangelina A. Cedeno, MD from MUSC for her abstract “Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Arising in a Congenital Lingual Thyroid in the Absence of Orthotopic Thyroid Tissue: A Rare Case.”
• Tied for 1^st place and winner of a $250 prize: Blair L. Hume from the Charleston Thyroid Center for her poster “Yorvipath (Palopegteriparatide) Reduces Pill Burden and Stabilizes Serum Calcium in Postsurgical Hypoparathyroid Patients with Persistent Symptomatic Hypocalcemia: A Real-World Case Series.”
• 2^nd place and $200 prize winner Amy L. Duff, DO from Grand Strand was awarded for her poster “Presumed Hyperfunctioning Ectopic Mediastinal Thyroid Tissue.”

In addition, four lucky winners walked away with fabulous prizes for playing the CSE Exhibit Hall Challenge:
