The 2026 NC/SC Societies of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (NC/SC SOHNS) Annual Meeting brought together more than 100 physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), residents, and medical students for three days of outstanding education, collaboration, and networking.

Attendees gathered in Asheville at the Omni Grove Park Inn from July 10-12 and participated in a robust scientific program featuring expert faculty, multidisciplinary panel discussions, and cutting-edge research presentations spanning the breadth of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. Session topics included hearing health and cochlear implantation, pediatric otolaryngology, laryngology, rhinology, sleep medicine, head and neck oncology, facial plastics and reconstruction, and innovations in surgeon-APP collaboration. The meeting also highlighted emerging technologies, personalized treatment approaches, and resident and student research. View the agenda.

Beyond the educational sessions, attendees connected with colleagues during networking breaks, exhibitor events, the welcome reception, and a packed dinner event, strengthening professional relationships across North and South Carolina. The meeting concluded with the presentation of exhibitor game prizes and of the Garrabrant Award to Nicholas M. Sorensen, MD from Wake Forest University. His presentation, “Nasal Button Battery Injuries in Children: A Small Case Series and Comprehensive Literature Review,” won top honors among the resident abstracts shared at the meeting.

Also on Sunday, incoming president Brendan O’Connell, MD presented Brian Thorp, MD with a plaque commemorating his service as NCSOHNS president in 2025-2026.
