Award season is approaching!

The NCMS is currently accepting nominations for these awards:

Golden Stethoscope Awards | E. Harvey Estes, Jr., MD, Physician Community Service Award | John Huske Anderson Award

Golden Stethoscope Awards (GSA)

Do you know an outstanding North Carolina Medical Society physician or physician assistant member who has demonstrated excellence in leadership, dedication to patients, and stellar skills in motivating, inspiring, and leading a medical team? If yes, please nominate that person for the NCMS’s Golden Stethoscope Award!

This award will provide peer recognition based upon nominations submitted and final selection by the NCMS Awards Committee. Deadline to submit your nomination is Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Eligible recipients must be members of the NCMS who meet the nomination criteria. Four awards will be presented in total — one recipient each from the NCMS’s four regions.

Nominees must:

Be a current member of the North Carolina Medical Society.
Be nominated by a peer or co-worker. The nominator does not have to be a member of NCMS.
Have demonstrated outstanding leadership, exceptional dedication to patient care exemplified by caring, compassion and quality care, and stellar leadership skills leading, motivating, inspiring peers who are physicians or physician assistants and leading a medical team.

E. Harvey Estes, Jr., MD, Physician Community Service Award

The North Carolina Medical Society is accepting nominations for the E. Harvey Estes, Jr., MD, Physician Community Service Award.

This award is to provide recognition for the many and varied services rendered by physicians to their communities apart from their practice of medicine.

The recipient must be a physician licensed in North Carolina; must not have received the award previously; and must have compiled an outstanding record of community service, which, apart from his or her specific identification as a physician, reflects well on the medical profession.

All nominations must be received by June 9, 2025.

John Huske Anderson Award

The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) is accepting nominations for the John Huske Anderson Award, given annually to a layperson whose contributions have had a positive impact on the medical profession and public health. The award honors Mr. Anderson’s service to medicine and the Society, having served as NCMS legal counsel from 1937 until his retirement in 1983.
