What is the NCMS Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders?

The NC Medical Society’s Kanof Institute for Physician Leadership presents the NCMS Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders (FHL) in partnership with the North Carolina AHEC. FHL is a seven-month inter-professional leadership development program for emerging leaders in a NC healthcare professional training program. FHL is distinguished by an emphasis on leading in an inter-professional healthcare environment and networking across institutions. The interactive learning format invites participants to actively engage with faculty, speakers, and peers.

Program Description

The seven month program includes a series of live, synchronous workshops that brings together students from a range of healthcare professions to build leader identity and master leadership skills including leading teams, communication, and career development. An interactive and participative approach will probe student experiences, build new perspective, and focus on each student’s individual development as a leader.

With the individual core as a foundation for leadership development, this course prepares students for the leadership journey, allowing the individual to establish a strong sense of purpose and understanding of who they want to be as a leader. The format for the program builds on three explicit design elements: Theory and Knowledge; Clinical Application, and Reflection and Dialogue.

The NCMS Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders will resume Fall 2026.

Check back here for new dates for the 2026 cohort.

This program consists of 4 in-person sessions and 4 virtual sessions. In person sessions are held on Saturdays except White Coat Day which is held on a Wednesday. Virtual Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm.
