The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) joined with more than 70 other organizations representing physicians to express concern about the maintenance of Certification (MOC) process. In a letter sent to the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) on Aug. 18, 2017, the signatories questioned “the usefulness of the exam and the ‘exorbitant costs’ of the MOC process among other issues.

The letter proposes a meeting of the leadership of the certifying boards, medical specialty societies and state medical societies to discuss the problems and devise a solution.
